HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY

Natural hormones have powerful health and protective qualities that we lose with age. Using Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy or BHRT later in life will protect us as well as our own hormones did in our youth. Often touted as anti-aging, a better description for BHRT is preventative medicine. Many of the effects of aging and physical decline can be treated with natural hormones which can protect against many diseases such as heart disease, osteoporosis, dementia, osteoarthritis and cancer.

WHAT ARE BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES?

Bioidentical hormones have a chemical composition identical to the hormones our bodies make.  Traditional prescription hormones are synthetic hormones that are not identical to human hormones.

WHY BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES?

Natural hormones have powerful health and protective qualities that we lose with age. Hormones can protect against many diseases such as heart disease, osteoporosis, dementia, osteoarthritis, breast cancer and uterine cancer. Using Bioidentical Hormone Therapy later in life will protect us as well as our own hormones did in our youth. Hormone therapy is safe and effective for men and women.

HOW ARE THE HORMONES TAKEN?

Some of the hormones are best taken orally and some are best if they are absorbed through the skin.  At your consultation, Dr. Kirk will make recommendations as to what will give the most benefit and then will work with you to create a treatment plan that will best fit your lifestyle.

HOW OFTEN DO I COME IN?

Typically you will have follow up blood work done after you have been on hormones for four to six weeks. Follow up appointments after that will vary depending on how many adjustments need to be made. Once the hormone levels have reached the optimal levels, follow up appointments will be once or twice per year.

WEIGHT LOSS

While diet and exercise are equally important, hormones can be very effective for weight loss in the right places. Hormone therapy can help reduce visceral fat or that stubborn belly fat that is behind the muscle and often does not respond to diet and exercise or liposuction.

MENOPAUSE & ANDROPAUSE

Many of women’s health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, osteoporosis, memory loss and changes in mood occur in menopause or whenhormone production stops. A large percentage of men will have a decline in testosterone after the age of 40, low testosterone levels have been associated with higher incidence of heart disease, prostate cancer, memory loss and changes in mood.

NO RISK OF CANCER

Not all hormones are created equal. The studies that have made the headlines are studies that were done using synthetic hormones and not bioidentical hormones. Bioidentical hormones have not only been shown to not increase the risk of cancer but multiple studies have shown that they can help prevent the very cancers synthetic hormones have been linked to.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?
